A supply order costs $450 with a 15% discount. What is the final cost? The choices are $360, $382.50, $392.50, and $405.
First find the discount: 450 x 0.15 = $67.50. Then subtract it from the original price: 450 - 67.50 = $382.50. The classic trap is stopping after the first step and picking an answer near $67.50, or subtracting 15 dollars instead of 15 percent. A faster version of the same setup is 450 x 0.85 = $382.50.

Rushing the read is the biggest one. Read the problem twice before touching the numbers, and underline what is being asked.
